Almost there…
Something happened this week. It’s as if a switch got flipped in my brain. I feel optimistic about things for the first time in a long time. The beginning of spring – a little late this year! I don’t know whether it’s because of the time change, which has meant lighter evenings, or the psychological boost that comes with the arrival of the spring equinox. Maybe it was the realization on Friday that there’s actually something growing in my garden, despite the snow which hasn’t fully receded yet. Could it have been the chatter at work, and the Facebook postings of Iranian friends… Read more…

Coming up? One order of peace & quiet
I’ve spent the last four days in our nation’s capital networking with some of Canada’s finest nuclear minds. All the hard work (and hours!) that had me a little last week were worth it. We launched our new company branding, my execs had productive meetings and I furthered many relationships – all while having a lot of fun. We had some uplifting and educational speakers and I’m pleased to say my own boss was among them, judging by the comments I received after his speech. Communications was mentioned many times as very important in my industry, so that bodes well… Read more…

Walking the tightrope
I haven’t blogged for a couple of weeks. There are a couple of reasons for that, although not particularly good ones. I have been all-consumed by work, in an unhealthy way. I knew I was burning the candle at both ends and pushing my limits. I haven’t seen much of home, much less my kids in the last month. My dog is feeling very unloved and unwalked and my waistline is showing it too. I haven’t had time to call, let alone email or text friends. I’ve been skipping yoga classes because I haven’t been home early enough to get… Read more…

Woman’s best friend
They say that dog is man’s best friend. I think they’re wrong. In my house, dog is woman’s best friend. An exhausted puppy snoozes a decade or so ago. My mixed-breed Maggie joined our household almost 11 years ago. Ostensibly meant as a companion to my youngest child, who was about to be “abandoned” by her brother as he joined my eldest boy at school full time, the whole family knew that cold-nosed squirmy bundle of energy was really for me. While she is partial to my daughter, mine she started and mine she stayed. A decade later, despite the fact… Read more…

The art of letting go
When I started practicing yoga a few years ago, I never imagined one of the hardest things I’d have to learn was how to lie still.A little background: About three years ago, a friend managed to sweet talk a local upscale gym into turning her free 6-month pass (won through her amazing marathon running feats) into two 3-month passes for each of us. I have her to thank for helping me start this journey. We set out the first night to a yoga class. I took a deep breath and hoped I’d be able to keep up to this superb… Read more…
