A short blog post today, because I’m still riding the high of a book party my three grownup-children (and two partners!) threw for me this afternoon.
And they did. With about 24 hours to go, they swooped in – one pair from the nation’s capital, another just recently returned from Banff, and a singleton from an overnight camp job. Working together, they pulled together one of the best days I’ve ever had.
People wandered in and out all afternoon – former and current colleagues, the ladies I met in prenatal class some 26 years ago, choir and church friends, mums I met on the playground and at activities when my kids were young and neighbours, both old and new. In one instance, we even found that two friends from different parts of my life knew each other. Small world indeed!
I admit, it took every ounce of restraint for me to let them organize the event on their own – and they may well tell you I didn’t restrain myself very well! All I had to do was give them a list of names to invite and make sure the house was clean. After that, I was told “we’ve got it.”
The weather was perfect, the food was amazing and the company just filled my heart to bursting. I got to catch up with loads of old friends, make some new ones, and even sold a few more copies of my novel.

And if you have bought a copy, thank you! Please do leave a review on Goodreads, on Amazon, or wherever you bought the book. If none of that works for you, you can let me know your thoughts using my Get in Touch form. I value all feedback.
Back to the story
As the afternoon wound down, the Ottawa pair and the camper sadly had to disappear back to their real lives, and as hard as it was to let them go, I know life goes on. But I will cherish this special day forever.
I am one very lucky author mum!
